NOTES: My entry for the Showtime Fan Ficton Contest, Topic#3: "From Portland to Pittsburgh and Back Again." Will the story ever be continued? Unlikely, but no one knows for sure except my fickle muse.

The Showtime fic starter...

The music at Babylon pulsed as Michael and Ben finished a particularly long kiss.

"That was amazing!" Michael said, smiling into his boyfriend's eyes.

"Thanks," Ben said, "Now I have to go to the little boys' room. Wait here."

Michael leaned against the bar, feeling like his life--for that moment at least--was perfect. Had he ever felt so happy? So content? Suddenly he felt someone's eyes looking at him. "That was some kiss." The voice was low, sexy, familiar ...and a little sad. Michael turned around and there he was, his previous great love: Doctor Dave. "Long time, no see," the hunky Doctor said, chucking Michael on the chin.

Michael's heart suddenly sank and leapt and spun all around his chest. "What are you doing here...?"

"Is that anyway to say hello?" said David with laughter.

Michael stammered, "I didn't mean...I'm sorry....I'm just surprised." He pulled himself together. "I just never expected to see you here again. You look good."

David admired Michael's slimmer, more toned appearance. "So do you. Even better than I remembered." He reached out to stroke Michael's cheek and drew the dark-haired beauty towards him. "Good enough to taste," he whispered, before leaning down for a kiss. His tongue flicked out and licked Michael's lips, which parted and gave him entrance to the sweet chamber within. He was elated when he felt hands touching his chest. The elation turned to disappointment when the hands pushed him away.

"What are you doing?" exclaimed Michael, with amused puzzlement.

David was intrigued by the new sense of confidence accompanying Michael's altered outward appearance. "I was saying hello."

"Next time try a hug or a handshake," Michael suggested.

David accepted the unintentional offer, and wrapped his arms around Michael's form. He felt gratified when Michael's arms surrounded his waist. "I can't believe how much I missed you." He regretted speaking when he felt Michael draw away.

"For a long time, I missed you too, but things changed and--" Michael stopped, startled by muscular arms, which embraced him from behind.

"Hey, baby," Ben said into Michael's ear.

Michael smiled lovingly over his shoulder. "Ben, I'd like you to meet someone. This is Dr. David Cameron--I mentioned him before."

Ben looked over the man who he'd seen making a move on Michael. His suspicions were on alert, but he kept them hidden. He released Michael's waist to stretch out a hand in greeting. "Ben Bruckner. I've heard a lot about you. What brings you to town?"

David shook the offered hand. "I'm attending a medical lecture series at the university."

"Interesting. Maybe we should all have lunch before you go."

"Yeah, that would be great."

"Right now, though, you'll have to excuse us. They're playing our song." Ben pulled Michael back onto the dance floor and they slipped into each other's arms with ease.

David had been watching them for a few minutes when a familiar voice drawled in his ear.

"Well, well, Doc. I didn't think you'd actually show up."

David didn't bother with greetings since he and Brian had no love lost between them. "Is he the one you were talking about?"

Brian turned his gaze to Michael and Ben, who were swaying together on the dance floor. "That's him. Whadda you think?"

"He seems nice enough--and they seem very...close."

"That's the problem. Michael's playing with fire and we need to fix that."

"Why do you need me? If you want to break them up, why don't you just do it yourself? You did a good job when I was with Michael."

"That was easy," Brian said dismissively. "But I doubt that this one will go down without a fight. So listen. I have a plan..."
